The last single before this unsung Sacramento band parted
ways , going on to play in the Bright Ideas, Bananas, FM Knives,
Lyme Regis, and Smog, only to reconvene in the early 2000s as
the Ski Instructors (along with Tristan of the Yah Mos & Lyme
Regis). Another great example of why Nar just never fit into the
90s U.S indie world. UK-pop-obsessed but with a punkish scrappiness,
Nar got lumped in unfortunately with the east bay pop punk scene
- who didn't know what to do with them either. Features a punked-up
cover of FELT'S "Christopher Street" if my description
of their inscrutibility wasn't clear enough. |

The one and only 7" from this
legendary London duo. First pressed as a CD ep by the band and brought
into the Rough Tracde shop (where Mr. Yakamashi! was working at
the time), some of the shopkeepers loved it so much that there was
a 7" version pressed up. An extra 500 were pressed up &
smuggled into the U.S. and Dulc-i-Tone was born. Soon after, a signing
frenzy occurred and the band disappeared, leaving only this legendary
Love-inspired four-song ep. OUT OF PRINT. |

post-=Gravity Records hardcore scene. Good melodies & tasteful
guitar work made them stand out. First and last time Yakamashi!

Sound on Sound), thus the new label moniker. Soon after this record,
Troubleman put out an LP & Zum issued a singles comp. The band
later morphed into the Dying Californian. |

One side has the Aislers covering Georgie Fame & the other has
the Fairways doing a Jesse Garon & the Desparadoes song. If
you can't tell already, Adrian Tomine did the cover art, and there's
a poster version of the artwork included inside. This was going
to be the first in a series of split singles with one loud band
and one quiet band (thus the fourth subsidiary label name), but
everyone thought that was a dumb idea so there you go. OUT OF PRINT. |

idea that they had signed to Kill Rock Stars already, we asked the
band about doing a record. How can you go wrong with a band that
looked like the Runaways but sounded like something between the

record, recorded by Matthew Smith of Outrageous Cherry. The covers

First non-tape release by Utrillo Kushner's Colossal Yes project
is a split with his Comets On Fire bandmate Ben Chasny (who also
recorded the Colossal Yes side at his house). The Colossal Yes song
is just voice and piano - way murkier & stripped down than the
debut full-length that followed soon after. The Six Organs song
is one of his most melodic & well, catchy acoustic songs. Covers
are silkscreened onto crappy plywood smothered in house paint. Limited

At
first listen, you might find this an odd pairing, but soon it
will make sense why the 'Skull has taken GANGLIANS on tour multiple
times. Deep down beneath the thin layer of nego-scuzz, Eat Skull
share's Ganglians knack for great damaged pop. Two songs from
Eat Skull's Sick to Death sessions - one a quick punk sprinter,
the other a woozy pop epic. Ganglians make their vinyl debut with
an undeniable hit in 'Lost Words'. Great stoned-strum-pop goodness.

Thrashed
out in the basement on a slow Sunday afternoon, the brand new
'Bad Design' has the lazy drive of a 'tougher' Bats -- hungover
with a shot voice and a negative attitude. It's also notable for
being the recording debut of newest Mantle, key-tickler Matt Kallman
(also of Magic Bullets). Though the 'P' word gets tossed around
too loosely in Mantles descriptions, 'Rachel' is inescapably psychedelic,
and the song most accurately deserving of the term. Recorded during
the comparatively hi-fi album session with Greg Ashley, 'Rachel'
is zoned-out and dreary with a sinister hook. A co-release with
Slumberland, this single is available only from the labels. Hear
